If everyone else is....

We have thought about blogging for awhile now. Then decided that we would never keep up with it so why even start but as someone else said...I can spend hours reading others blogs so I should be able to find time to write in my own. And lately we have had more and more friends join Facebook and become Bloggers so we have decided that it's just the way of the world now. Plus it's a good way to keep a journal of some sort. Something we are not that good at. So now that we have two kids to keep up with we will give this a try.

Just a quick summary of our current life.

Kennedy is in first grade and still adjusting to "long days". Somedays she tells us how much fun they are while other days she whines that they are too long. She is an excellent reader which must be part of Brian's gene's. Staci hates to read. She excels at memorization and has since she was very small. She always used to say we are going to the "little food store". That's Sam's Club since they hand out all the small samples. Or the "monster store". That's the Chinese restaurant that has a statue of dragons. Or that's Mom's work or Dad's work or Brett's work. All this was just because she memorized the logo's. That has helped her out in her reading because now everything is sight word based and all she has to do is memorize it. She finds sounding it out boring. She is also in her third year of AYSO soccer. Let's just say, she has all the althletic abilities of her parents. And that is to say, not much. Last year she enjoyed soccer and started to get into kicking the ball but mostly because we paid her. This year she isn't that excited. They are trying to learn positions and she feels like she can't run out to get the ball that it must come to her area. Hopefully she will learn to enjoy it a little bit. And the biggest goal of her life right now is to lose her teeth. She has currently lost 1 front tooth and 1 on the bottom but the other front tooth is just dangling and another on the bottom is loose. School pictures are coming soon and she will probably be toothless.

Oaklan turns 12 weeks old tomorrow. Unbeleivable how fast time goes. Oaklan was born with a club foot, or for those of you who hate that terminology a twisted foot. His ankle was turned in. A cast was put on his foot when he was only 2 weeks old. Every week for 5 weeks we have had to go down to Primary Children's Hospital and have a new cast put on. Every week they moved his foot a little more until it was in the correct position. Then on week 6 he had to have the Achille's tendon cut and his foot recast for 3 more weeks. That was so the tendon could grow to the right length. Now we have graduated to the special shoes. He has to remain in those shoes 23 hours a day for 3 months. They are not fun to deal with although he doesn't seem to mind them as much as we do. The first day they strapped him in them he screamed and cried (cried so hard he was throwing up) all the way home from Salt Lake. But ever since then he hasn't been too bad.

But he does have a temper when it comes to his food. This kid has been an eater ever since we brought him home. He came home from the hospital eating 4 ounces every 3-4 hours. Now he eats about 5 ounces every 3-4 hours but if he's hungry 30 minutes after he last ate then he's hungry and he will let you know. Last week was his 2 month check up and he is a hefty 14 lbs 1 oz. Funny thing is his weight is just where it should be for his height. He is extremely tall (90th percentile) at 25 inches long. Not sure where that is coming from. He looks like a 4 month old. Even the Dr commented on how strong he is and how he acts older than he is. He can pull himself up onto his feet and hold himself there and Brian is excited that he can balance on his hand. He laughs and talks alot too. Kennedy was not a talker. Oaklan can make us laugh with his Ooohs and Aaahs.

Brian is working for Weber School District as the head custodian at Bates Elementary. He loves his stress-free job and is close to home with great benefits. Hard to beat that. He is also the Elder's Quorum President which can keep him busy.

Staci is working for Citi (Citigroup)and has been with the company for 14 years now. She creates schedules and call volume forecasts for the call centers. She works with people from all across the nation and is lucky enough to be able to work remotely from home. She is still home on maternity leave which is the best benefit of all.

We are always trying to update our house. We have decided to create a new master closet with better organization. We'll see what we end up with.
