So Kennedy's new school is somewhat ready....They didn't quite get the school done like they had planned to but they still held Back to School and an Open House tonight. We went and got to tour the new school and get Kennedy familiar with her new class room. I was going to take some pictures and probably should have but alot of the stuff isn't ready yet. Like the library has empty shelves in it. The computer lab is completely empty. They had put together the desks the day before and the teacher only got that day to put her room together. Um...the open house started at 3:00 so she didn't have alot of time. It's a gorgeous school with all new stuff. The kids are spoiled. They built it so there are 4 class rooms per grade and each grade is in it's own pod. It's interesting walking through a school with a custodian. Brian pointed out all of the horrible cleaning aspects of the school. Things a normal person wouldn't pay much attention to but a custodian certainly does. One of the biggest things is all the windows. There are a ton of windows and they are two story windows but there are also windows from level two to look into the gym. First thing Brian said is that you would have to use a ladder to get to those windows but the basketball hoops are in the way. The computer labs are full glass walls. With the railing on the upper level you aren't able to use the scrubber to get under them so you have to go back and do all that by hand. Another big thing...they have these really nice courtyards in the back but they had to put the courtyard on level one and then ramps and stairs get you up to the back playground. Problem with that is that it's the north facing side of the building and when it snows there is nowhere for the custodian to move the snow and the ice will never melt. Even one of the district guys told Brian they had brought in 4 different landscapers to see what they could do and there isn't a good solution. It will be interesting to see what happens this first year.
