Saturday was a day of exploring.
We had a map that showed us where there were petroglyphs, dino tracks, or other interesting things. There were two main areas..a road on each side of the Colorado River.
We went down the first road but forgot to look at our odometer to see how many miles we had traveled so we were guessing at the location. We stopped at one spot and walked up this little hill to a cave in the rock that was fenced off. The map notated that some petroglyphs were behind a fence so we thought that was it. It wasn't. We found someones storage garage with an old car and swamp cooler in there. So we continued down the road to another site. It was called the 'Birthing Rock'. Experts claim these are pictures of women giving birth. Maybe the location that women came to give birth.
On our way back from the 'Birthing Rock' we stopped at a location where there were a bunch of people rappelling down the red rock. Once we got out and started to explore we found out that this was the original location that we had been looking for with the fenced off petroglyphs. It was actually right outside a campground. There was also this area in the rock where they had built a "ladder" made out of logs. And this HUGE tree to play in.
Then we crossed over to the other side of the river and found lots and lots of rock climbers on that side. A group of people every 100 feet or so. We were supposed to be able to find petroglyphs along that wall but since there was so many people we didn't really stop to see. We went down the road to a dinosaur track.
After the Dino track, a small arch, and more petroglyphs we headed back to the townhouse for lunch. After a break we decided to head back out to see 'Dead Horse Point State Park'. Great views but it was so cold.
We left 'Dead Horse Point' and headed back past the townhouse, down the road, to try to get to Hole in the Rock. We pulled into Hole in the Rock at 5:08 and they closed at 5:00. It's a tourist trap of a gift shop but it's carved into the rock. The guy actually carved his home into the rock and lived there. You can pay to take a tour of the house. Kennedy had brought her own money to buy herself a souvenir so she was pretty disappointed that she didn't get to see Hole in the Rock.
We drove back to town and decided to go eat. We found a place called ZAX that was a wood fired pizza place. We enjoyed dinner and started to shop the main street stores. Oaklan started coughing really hard and Grandpa and Grandma decided to take him home while we kept shopping. We found a Kennedy a hat and flip flops, and found Brian a shirt. I couldn't find anything for Oaklan or myself. I don't understand why t-shirts have to be made in teen sizes and can't be made to fit an adult.
When we got back home Grandma and Grandpa had stopped at the grocery store and picked up some ice cream. After ice cream and cold medicine we were ready for bed.
