The Fourth of July

So this year was a little different from our regular Fourth of July routine. We normally stay in North Ogden for the Cherry Day's celebration. However, this year West Weber had a special Sesquicentennial celebration. Brian's parents have been serving on the committee so we have been enjoying our roots there. We started the morning early with a baby contest. Oaklan won "happiest baby" in his age group.

Then they had a free breakfast in the park. Pancakes, Eggs, Hashbrowns, Fruit. It was really good. That's where Brian's parents are involved. They somehow always get involved in serving food. They must just be that good at throwing parties!

Then there was a parade. This is something that I don't think West Weber had done...at least not for a long time. Brian's mom thought that they needed some antique cars for the seniors to ride in so she asked if we could get the Mustang. Dad let us use it so we took it out there. I think all of West Weber was in the parade. Not many people were there to watch it. They ended up having plenty of antique cars so Brian, myself, and the kids just rode in the parade as an antique car. Kinda fun actually. Brian's brother, Spencer, brought the old Wheelwright truck so Spencer and Rod (Brian's Dad) rode in that. Then Spencer and Corianne's little girl Payton won Princess in her age group so Corianne got to ride on the float with Payton. It was a family event. The Clydesdale's are also owned by extended family. We included a picture of the neatest vehicle that Brian has ever seen. Somebody had built this cannon truck thing. It drove around shooting off cannon's.






West Weber also had a free carnival - free bounce houses, free cotton candy, free slushes, free candy cannon, free sawdust pit, bubble blowing stand. I have to say that I enjoyed the free old fashioned neighborhood feeling of the West Weber celebration. That's one thing I don't like about North Ogden's Cherry Days. It's very commercialized and everything at the park is either a commercial booth or you have to pay a fortune to eat or play. Thank you to all those that worked so hard on this celebration. Too bad you can't do it every year.

In the evening we always have a BBQ at Grandma and Grandpa Jan and Joe's house. All the extended family on Jan's side comes and we pull out the little kids pools too.


After all the fun, everyone leaves and does their own thing for the fireworks at night. We usually drive down the road and park where we can see the Weber High School display. Quick getaway with no crowds. Oaklan didn't make it through the show. Hope everyone enjoyed their Holiday. Happy Fourth of July!
